Val de Cans Airport (BEL): Approximate driving time is 20 minutes and distance is 16 kilometres (10 miles).
Buses run from 200 metres outside the terminal to the city centre and cost approx. 0.60 USD. Alternatively take an airport taxi for about 15 USD, which is paid for at a desk in the airport hall. Local taxis are also available. Fares are negotiated in advance, and should cost approx. 13 USD.
Driving directions: From the airport, head west on Julio Cesar Avenue. Turn right into Almirante Barroso Avenue, then turn right into Gov. Jose Malcher Avenue, towards Republica Square. Turn right into Assis de Vasconcelos Avenue, and then left into Oswaldo Cruz Street, and left again into Presidente Vargas Avenue, and continue for four blocks.
Most of Belém's main attractions are within walking distance of Praça da República. For destinations further afield, the buses are fast and efficient and the city's taxis are plentiful and affordable. Taxi fares double on Sundays.
